A place of warmth, wonder, and learning in the heart of East Gippsland
Wild Cherry School was established from a vision shared by a committed group of East Gippsland families who were inspired to bring a Steiner education to their children and the whole community — an education that honours childhood, celebrates creativity, and nurtures the whole child.
For over a decade Wild Cherry has grown into a truly special place for children to learn and grow — from Playgroup through to Class 6 — under the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework. Established gardens, natural play spaces, and an intimate community make this a place where children are truly known and valued.
In 2023 Wild Cherry purchased farmland in Johnsonville for our new school. The community was Welcomed on to Country, and in 2025 we received funding from the Commonwealth Government to bring the build to life — continuing the journey started by the founding families. Construction begins in 2026 and, all being well, doors open in 2028.

Everything we do is rooted in the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner and a deep respect for child development.
“Receive the children in reverence, educate them in love, and send them forth in freedom.”
We educate the whole child — head, heart, and hands — nurturing intellectual, emotional, physical, and creative growth in equal measure.
Steiner education honours each stage of child development; the curriculum richly supports and nurtures each child in an unhurried way.
Our gardens, outdoor play spaces, and nature-based programs foster a deep relationship with the natural world and environmental stewardship.
Seasonal festivals, shared meals, and parent involvement create a warm, connected school community rooted in collaboration and care.
Music, movement, drama, arts and craft are woven into each day, bringing learning to life.
Daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms provide children with security and continuity, supporting healthy development and deep learning.

Bairnsdale is the commercial capital of East Gippsland and the gateway to the Gippsland Lakes — one of Australia's most beautiful natural landscapes. Our school is nestled in this vibrant regional town, surrounded by mountains, the Mitchell River, and close to the ocean and lakes.
This stunning natural setting deeply informs our approach to education. Children connect with the land through gardening, outdoor play, bush walks, and seasonal celebrations that reflect the rhythms of our unique East Gippsland environment.
